Jagannath Temple

The word Jagannath means the “Lord of the world”, therefore the temple is dedicated to the lord of the world i.e. Lord Vishnu is popularly known as Jagannath temple. It is located in the holy city of Puri in Odisha state. It is one of the pilgrimage spots of the Chardham yatra in the east of India. The temple has curvilinear shape. It is also said that there is “Shri Sudarshan Chakra” of Lord Vishnu on top of the temple. The idols of the main deities i.e Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and his sister Subhodra are placed in the inner sanctum of the temple. The inner sanctum of the temple is considered to be more mesmerizing than the other parts surrounding it. The main building of this religious site is surrounded by huge wall and its gate is guarded by two lions. Enormous number of devotees flock to this temple to seek forgiveness from God for their inappropriate deeds committed by them in their lifetime, also to seek blessings from the lord and experience divinity. Another reason to visit this temple is the famous Rath Yatra festival of this temple which makes it world famous. The temple is open for devotees round the year.
