MahaLaxmi Puja also known as “Lakshmi Pujan” is a ritual dedicated to “Goddess of wealth and fortune”. i.e. Goddess Laxmi which falls on Amavasya(new moon day) of Krishna Paksha( dark fortnight) in the Vikram Samvat Hindu calendar of Ashwin. In Hinduism, this puja is specifically performed on the auspicious festival of Diwali on its third day. It is believed that on this day goddess Laxmi, wife of Lord Vishnu visits the earth, therefore the devotees perform this puja in order to seek her blessings. The goddess represents wealth, prosperity and opulence, Therefore, for an access to the above, this ritual is to be performed with good, pure and clean hands. On this day, in order to welcome goddess Laxmi people clean their houses and decorate with diyas , flowers and lights, wear new clothes and prepare delicacies to offer to the goddess. And as the evening approaches puja is been offered to goddess Laxmi and to other deities (Lord Ganesh, Sarawati and Kubera) with goddess Laxmi.
After the puja people also celebrate by lighting fireworks.
