Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

Located 32 km from the Yoga capital of the world i.e” Rishikesh”, this temple is dedicated to “the Destroyer” among the Trimurti i.e Lord Shiva. According to the legend, this temple is a pious place where benevolent Lord Shiva drank the venom that exuded during samudramanthan. As a consequence, his throat turned blue due to the poison which gave Lord Shiva the another name “Neelkanth”. The temple has a very fascinating and a kaleidoscopic architecture. The entire scene of the epic Samudramanthan is depicted by the near to real sculptors of deities and demons. Also the walls of the temple depict the epic Saga of samudramanthan.  A pious shivlinga is placed in this shrine. There is also a sacred peepal tree onto which devotees  tie a thread and make a wish. Along with this, the temple also has  a natural spring where devotees take bath before entering the sacred place. This temple witnesses the enormous number of devotees to celebrate the auspicious day of Mahashivratri with full zeal and enthusiasm. This temple blesses the devotees with the ultimate divinity and is visited by the devotees throughout the year.
