Hindu religious belief strongly supports the fact that birth, death and marriage are the predecided phenomena in our lives.
Though marriages are believed to be made in heaven, but to make it work well, we need God's blessings. Almighty is keen to bless us when the right things are done at the right moment.
The word "Muhurat" has been derived from the sanskrit word muhurtam meaning "the moment" more precisely the right moment.
Muhurat refers to the appropriate/right time to start or perform a religious function so that God's blessings shower upon us to the fullest and the function becomes a grand success.
Finding the right moment for an auspicious occasion like marriage is very important. So according to the vedic astrology calculation of muhurat is a must for marriages.
Muhurat can also be calculated and fixed for other events like namakaran, grihapravesh, mundan ceremony or buying a vehicle.

A gandmool nakshatra shanti puja is a ritual performed to minimize or eradicate the effects of gandmool nakshatra dosh which takes place in the birth chart of a human, if at the time of his/her birth the moon gets places in the following six gandmool nakshatras-
Ashwini
Ashlesha
Magha
Jyeshtha
Moola and
Revath
As these nakshatras are mainly governed by planets like mercury and Ketu, therefore in Hindu astrology the gandmool doshas are regarded as inauspicious and should be nullified for the better life of person in whose birth chart it takes place. As per the standard practice this puja should be done within 27 days after the child is born in order to diminish its bad effects.
It is also considered that the child born in these nakshatras are considered inauspicious and has to undergo a lot of sufferings in their life if this puja is not done in timely manner. And not only the child the family also has to undergo a lot of sufferings.
